Wie kann man den Unterricht gestalten?
What can my lesson plans look like?

Eine ganz tolle Seite einer Grundschule ist hier:
http://www.wbs.rt.bw.schule.de/Englisch.htm

Gerne spielt meine Tochter auch "I spy with my little eye"
dafür müssen allerdings bereits einige Wörter geläufig sein...

Because songs and rhymes (poems, tongue twisters) are a way to learn a language, the teacher could put them in the lesson, with the help of software. The games contribute to language learning, too. For example, the game "Memory" or other games could be played with a student or a CD-ROM could be used. While listening the students recognize the words
they know in another context.

Working with just one computer in class

Beitragvon NiFi » 28.07.2005, 19:30

In most classrooms you have the problem that you just have one computer with which the pupils can work. A good solution to solve this problem is to take two pupils at the beginning of the lesson and let them work together. The advantage is that you have a greater possibility for interaction because the pupils can talk about the exercises and can help each other with different tasks. If you want more pupils to work with the computer during a lesson you can set them a time limit, let's say 20 minutes, after which other pupils can work with the software.

Each lesson plan has to include a little introduction to the topic (for example to the software "OKay"). This introduction has to make clear which goals have to be achieved in this lesson (for example: each group has to draw a picture of their level including a clue, if you treat the OKay software like a simple adventure game). Furthermore it is necessary to introduce new vocabulary that is needed to work with the CD-ROM. After that one group gets a predefined time to work on its level. The next task is to draw the most important scene of this level and to explain it to the rest of the class (so the next group can start at the next level). The advantages of such a division of labour are on the one hand the possibility for interaction and on the other hand the usage of the computer in class is fairly shared. In the end the whole class works on a worksheet (for example matching exercises) to record the pupil's progress.

using authentic materials

Beitragvon MissB » 01.08.2005, 16:25

Foreign language teaching in primary school imparts students a lot about life in other countries. Authentic materials are in this case an important resource because they make an original meeting with other cultures possible, especially with the culture of the children. Students experience in this way what for example their contemporaries in England, Scotland, America or Australia eat, drink, read, sing and how they celebrate their parties and where they live. Better yet than any other didactic material do authentic materials offer insight into the everyday life of the other culture and provide mostly natural source materials to deal with a foreign language.
